What’s behind Njia Panda
We are an Austrian-Kenyan couple and live in Kenya, with a passion for discovering the world and getting to know new places.
From Africa to South and Central America and Europe, we have experienced many different landscapes, cultures and ways of life. Every journey has given us new perspectives, changed the way we see the world and broadened our own horizons – not only geographically, but also in the way we look at people, places and ways of life.
Kenya has become a special home for us.
We know the country not only from guidebooks and classic safaris. We have traveled through many regions ourselves, explored remote areas and experienced again and again just how diverse Kenya is away from the well-known routes.
Over the years, we have organized numerous individual round trips and have often accompanied them personally – from the initial idea and route planning through to the organization on the ground and the small changes that arise along the way.
We realized that this is exactly where our passion lies: discovering special places, combining different experiences and creating journeys that are just as individual as the people who take them.
Njia Panda means "crossroads" in Swahili – a place where paths meet and new directions emerge.
A crossroads is a moment of decision. You reach a point where there is not just one way forward, but several. Perhaps you follow the road everyone else takes. Perhaps you turn off and discover something you would otherwise have missed.
That is exactly the idea behind Njia Panda: Journeys do not always have to follow a straight line. Sometimes it is the detours, unexpected turns and small diversions that make a journey special. We want to leave room for these moments – for the things that are not on the first page of a guidebook and cannot simply be ticked off a checklist.
We ourselves also represent a connection: we are an Austrian-Kenyan couple and know Kenya from different perspectives. This knowledge, our personal experience and our enthusiasm for the country flow into every journey we create.
Njia Panda stands for the crossroads of different paths – and for the possibility of discovering your own way.
For us, traveling through Kenya is not just about seeing landscapes and wildlife. We also want to get to know the country and its people.
Kenya is characterized by great cultural and geographical diversity. Different communities, languages, traditions and ways of life are just as much a part of the country as its national parks, mountains, forests and lakes.
That is why we also try to create opportunities for encounters and insights into local life during our journeys. We do not simply visit places; we want to understand how people live, work and experience their region.
It is important to us not to see local people simply as part of a "program item." Encounters should be authentic and based on mutual respect.
For us, it is precisely this connection between landscape, nature, culture and people that makes traveling through Kenya so special.
Many trips to Kenya focus on the well-known national parks and classic safari routes. Of course, these are part of Kenya – but they are far from the whole story.
We are particularly interested in places and regions that are more difficult to reach – remote areas, less-developed regions and experiences that require flexibility, practical knowledge and local insight to organize.
Whether desert landscapes and remote regions in the north, rainforest, highlands and Lake Victoria in the west, or safari, mountain landscapes, Maasai culture and the Taita Hills in the south – we want to show different sides of Kenya and also include places that lie away from the classic travel routes.
Through our own travels, we have repeatedly experienced that things do not always go according to plan – especially in Kenya. A vehicle can break down, a road can suddenly become impassable or a situation on the ground can develop very differently from what was expected.
We have learned to react flexibly, find solutions and remain calm even when the original plan no longer works.
This experience also helps us when planning and organizing our journeys. We do not try to eliminate every uncertainty – instead, we know how to deal with it.
This allows us to include more unusual and less accessible regions in our journeys and to respond flexibly to conditions on the ground.
We do not simply want to show you Kenya; we want to give you time to truly experience it.
For us, it is not about fitting as many program items as possible into the shortest possible time. We want to experience special places and landscapes, be able to make a spontaneous stop along the way and gain authentic insights into life on the ground.
It is important to us that a journey is not only about arriving and moving on, but also about the experiences and encounters in between.
Our journeys are private trips for 2–6 people.
This allows us to make the journey more personal and respond to the people we are traveling with. You do not travel in a large group with a fixed program, but have the opportunity to shape the journey around your interests within the scope of the planned route.
Some people want to hike, others are particularly interested in wildlife, history or culture. Others simply want to experience landscapes and spend as much time outdoors as possible.
Wherever possible, we adapt the program to your interests and wishes.
We value personal support in German and English and are your points of contact from the first inquiry until the end of your journey.
At the same time, we work with local guides and people from the respective regions. They know their surroundings, their culture and their stories first-hand.
By arrangement and depending on your needs, we can also accompany you personally on individual activities and support you with communication with the local guides.
This allows us to combine personal support with the knowledge and experience of the people on the ground.
Our journeys are born from our own enthusiasm for this country – and from our experience as travelers.
We do not just want to show you the well-known photo opportunities, but also the small moments in between: an encounter by the roadside, a conversation with a local guide, a walk through the forest, a drive through a landscape that suddenly changes completely – or a place where you simply stop for a while and take it all in.
Sometimes it is precisely these experiences that stay with us the longest after a journey.
We want to show you Kenya the way we love it ourselves: authentic, varied, diverse, adventurous and full of special experiences.
We know the country not only from guidebooks. We bring our experience on the ground and work together with you to plan a journey that suits your ideas and expectations.
