Airport pick-up → Accommodation → Dinner together
After arriving in Nairobi, we pick you up at the airport and take you to your accommodation.
Depending on your arrival time, we will take the first evening at a relaxed pace and then meet for dinner at the famous Carnivore Restaurant, one of Nairobi’s best-known restaurants, known for its traditional meat specialties.
Dinner is included, provided the arrival time allows for it.
Nairobi → Tea plantation → Tea tasting
Today we experience a completely different side of Kenya.
North of Nairobi, there are numerous tea plantations. Kenya is one of the world’s most important tea producers, and tea is an important part of the country’s agriculture and economy.
During a guided tour of a tea plantation, we learn more about the cultivation and processing of tea. Depending on the season and availability, we can also take part in tea picking ourselves. Afterwards, we taste different varieties of tea.
The visit combines nature, agriculture and an insight into an important part of everyday life in Kenya.
Nairobi → Great Rift Valley → Viewpoint → Lake Naivasha → Crescent Island
Early in the morning, we leave Nairobi and drive towards Lake Naivasha.
The journey takes us through the Great Rift Valley, with a stop at a viewpoint overlooking the valley and offering an impressive view across the landscape.
After arriving at Lake Naivasha, we head out by boat and continue to Crescent Island Nature Reserve, a private conservation area on a peninsula in Lake Naivasha.
There, we go on a walking safari and can experience zebras, giraffes and various species of antelope from close range.
In the late afternoon, we return to the shore and visit a restaurant by the lake. With a little luck, we may also be able to observe hippos from there.
Thomson’s Falls → Hike → Hippo Point
In the morning, we leave Lake Naivasha and continue towards Nyahururu in the central highlands of Kenya.
In the afternoon, we hike to Thomson’s Falls and continue to Hippo Point.
Thomson’s Falls are around 74 meters high and are among the best-known waterfalls in Kenya.
The hike takes us through the varied landscape around Nyahururu. At Hippo Point, with a little luck, we may be able to observe hippos in the water.
Safari Train → Nairobi → Approx. 6-hour train journey
Today we experience Kenya from a completely different perspective.
We travel by Safari Train from Nyahururu back to Nairobi. The journey takes approximately 6 hours.
The train journey passes through varied landscapes and offers a nostalgic and slower-paced alternative to traveling by road. With a little luck, there may even be wildlife sightings along the way.
The train journey is subject to the current timetable, as the Safari Train only operates on certain days. If no suitable connection is available, the onward journey to Nairobi will be by car.
Nairobi → Amboseli → Maasai cultural experience
In the morning, we leave Nairobi and drive south towards Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The journey takes us through increasingly dry landscapes and rural areas.
In the afternoon, we take part in a Maasai cultural experience. We gain an insight into the traditional way of life of the Maasai, visit a Manyatta – a traditional Maasai homestead with simple round huts – and, depending on the program, may experience traditional dances and other cultural elements.
Full-day safari → Elephants → Kilimanjaro
Today we spend the entire day in Amboseli National Park.
The name Amboseli comes from the Maa language and is commonly associated with the meaning “salty, dusty place” – a fitting description of the park’s dry, dusty plains.
The park is particularly known for its large elephant herds and the spectacular backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
We take our time for extended game drives and explore different areas of the park. In addition to elephants, with a little luck we may observe lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo and various species of antelope.
In clear weather, there are repeated opportunities for impressive views of Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 meters. However, the summit is often covered by clouds, so a completely unobstructed view of Kilimanjaro cannot be guaranteed.
Longest driving day → Amboseli → Tsavo Region
Today we leave Amboseli National Park and continue towards Voi and the Tsavo region.
With approximately 6–7 hours of driving, this is the longest driving day of the entire trip. The route passes through different landscapes and rural areas in southern Kenya.
For the following day, there are two different safari options to choose from:
Full-day safari → Tsavo East or Rukinga Conservancy
Today, we spend the day on safari.
Depending on the option chosen, we spend the day either in Tsavo East National Park or in Rukinga Conservancy.
In both cases, we take the entire day for game drives and wildlife viewing. We may observe elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, antelope and, with luck, predators.
In the evening, we leave the safari area and continue to Wundanyi in the Taita Hills.
Taita Hills → Cloud forest → Coast
Today we discover the Taita Hills, a significantly higher-altitude and climatically distinctive region in southern Kenya.
Due to the altitude, the climate here is cooler and wetter than in the surrounding areas. Particularly at higher elevations, mist can often form – a clear contrast to the hot and dry landscapes we have experienced previously.
The cloud forests of the Taita Hills are among the region’s particularly species-rich habitats and are home to numerous endemic plant and animal species. During a guided hike, we explore this special habitat on foot.
Both hikes are accompanied by a local guide who knows the region very well and can tell us a great deal about the plants, animals and special features of the Taita Hills. Which route is chosen depends on fitness, interests and the conditions on site.
After the hike, we continue towards the coast. With our arrival at the coast, our journey through southern and central Kenya comes to an end.
Your journey does not have to end on the last day of our route.
If you still have some time in Kenya, you can extend your stay in Diani Beach – for a few relaxing days on the Indian Ocean and to discover some more special places and experiences.
We are happy to put together an individual extension for you – according to your wishes and the time you have available.
